I am a London based Psychologist and Photographer. My work revolves around the photographic image and memory.

In his 1945 essay entitled “The Ontology of the Photographic Image”, André Bazin argues that

the lens gives us an image of the object capable of bringing back to consciousness our deep unconscious needs. These unconscious needs represent mental contents which are parts of the mind that we are unaware and cannot become aware except under special circumstances. Psychoanalysts use projective testing, such as Rorschach Inkblot and Thematic Apperception Tests, in order to understand these needs. It is thought that the individual will “project” aspects of their own personality onto the test item when interpreting it. The present work employs a similar logic to that of projective testing where six individuals are asked to interpret the same photographic image. What we are left with is six stories depicting the uniqueness of the human experience.

We might be looking at the same image but what we see is a product of our memory.
